I enjoyed listening to the lunchtime lecture that Mr. Samaikone gave, and I found his detailed style and use of different mediums very interesting and unique. I liked how, despite his use of different mediums and art forms like animation, painting, or illustration, he was still able to maintain a consistent and unique style throughout all of his pieces. Even his toys still had his distinct style to them, which helped create an overall sense of unity in all of his work. I noticed how he talked a little about some of the underlying themes of his work, but especially how he had personal connections to the country of Vietnam. He avoided the Vietnam War at first due to personal connections but then leaned towards a peaceful message about it. I think this shows much of his growth and how heavily personal ties or connections can influence people's art and what they generally theme their works around. The personal connection he had to his pieces made them more powerful for him, and it reminded me of how art can be used as almost an extension of yourself and as a sense of reflection for your beliefs or ideas. Overall, I did enjoy his style I thought it was so cool how he included different aspects from other comics or manga or even expressionism, I believe. Despite him doing a lot of black and white work, I think the work he did in color was very cool, and he did an amazing job at choosing a color pallet that flows together well and allows all the different colors to shine. I am really happy I was able to meet him and experience his art!
